The Curb Grid
I herded the brown acorn to the pedestrian ramp at the street corner. Embedded flush in the concrete was a bright yellow tactile paving slab covered in raised, round domes arranged in clean columns. The grooves between each row formed straight downhill channels. I set the acorn at the upper seam between two lines of studs and lined up my stance. A firm forward tap sent it rolling down the incline. The yellow studs acted as dependable guide rails, preventing any sideways drift. It rolled true all the way to the curb edge. Predictable trajectory, solid surface control.
