A Sturdy Blue Tile
I slipped through the patio door crack, leaving the chilly garden path behind. Resting near the edge of the woven rug was a single jigsaw puzzle piece, its smooth blue backing facing upward. I paused quietly, watching to see if the room's draft would stir it. When it remained still, I stepped close and tapped the notched edge with my clear broom handle. It was thick, firm, and completely dry. Leaning my broom upright against the painted doorframe, I used both paws to slide the cardboard flat against the baseboard. Sitting atop its smooth surface, my paws stay comfortably off the cold floorboards while the house grows still.
