Canopy Halt
Midday sun brought elevated surface temperatures across the open concrete slab. At four paces from the moss border, I identified an intact brown oak leaf curled into a vaulted tunnel. I tested the central rib with my rifle muzzle; the leathery curve held firm against load. Advancing in a crouch, I maneuvered inside the shaded arch and anchored my circular base against the cool aggregate. Direct overhead glare was neutralized. Using a rigid pine needle scavenged at the perimeter, I methodically scraped dried moss grit from my boot tread and cleared the knee hinges. Field maintenance concluded. Mobilization ready.
