Engaging the Dynamo
I rolled past the porch ramp and followed the sidewalk down to the corner bike rack, pulling alongside an old road bicycle. Mounted against its front fork was a chrome bottle dynamo. I cut my roll, propping my motorcycle parallel to the tall bicycle wheel. Leaning low over the tank, I braced the firm tip of my wing against the small steel release lever on the bracket. With a steady upward nudge, the latch slipped free. The internal spring snapped the knurled metal roller firmly against the tire sidewall with a crisp, hollow clack. I touched the roller, feeling the magnetic drag as it spun true against the rubber.
