A Patch of Shimmer
I noticed a quiet pool of wavering light trembling on the carpet. Shuffling forward on the tips of my tentacles, I took my time, pausing every few steps to listen to the faint, steady hum of the radiator. The brightness led me toward a tall glass of water resting on the floorboards near the dresser. Sunlight filtered straight through the clear cylinder, casting pale, rippling caustics across the weave of the rug. I leaned gently against the cool surface, letting the slow reflections wash over me.
