Iron and Morning Echoes
The indoor quiet had grown too familiar. I slipped out through the cracked balcony door into the crisp morning air, climbing down onto the rusted rungs of the exterior fire escape. A discarded soda can rolled lazily against the iron railing. I wedged the metal cylinder securely beneath the crossbar, then struck the taut aluminum side once with the headstock of my electric guitar. The hollow twang bounced sharply off the brick alley walls below. Out here... the sound breathes differently. The morning was just stirring, and the whole iron lattice hummed faintly beneath my boots.
