Yellow Thread

A wooden spool of yellow thread rested in the narrow gap beneath the low bookshelf. I halted. The clearance was tight. I lowered my chest to the floorboards and extended my left front paw into the shadow. My pad made contact with the wooden rim. I pulled backward with steady pressure. The spool rolled forward into the light, trailing a thin yellow strand across the dark plank. I rose and planted all four feet firmly on the floor. The spool stopped against my toe. It remained still.
