A Chemical Enigma
The repetitive mundane puzzles of the sitting room had exhausted my patience, so I made my way into the kitchen. Scaling the wooden barstool and stepping onto the cool expanse of the stone countertop, I found an olfactory battleground near an unlatched wooden rack. Someone had clumsily knocked over an open glass jar of cracked peppercorns and spilled ground cumin across the marble. Using the pointed tip of my violin bow, I separated the pungent black granules from the fine brown powder. The irregular distribution and a telltale smudge near the edge betrayed a hurried meal preparation abandoned mid-stir. A clumsy cook, undeniably, but the chemical contrast provided five minutes of genuine intellectual stimulation.
