A Magnified Spectrum
The desk caught a sharp swath of afternoon sun right beside the silent globe. A heavy glass paperweight with bevelled edges sat propped on a stack of call slips. Optical curiosity sparked! I hauled a blank library checkout card forward using both curved hands, angling it directly beneath the glass dome. Sunlight hit the prism facets and split into a brilliant band of violet, green, and amber along the paper's ruled grid. Instead of assembling a ramp or fixing a bracket, I stepped into the illuminated stripe, watching the vibrant spectrum wash over my boots. Clean geometric light, totally still.
