A Slight Tap
Silence surrounded me. I stood rigid upon the pale base, curved blade held across my chest. Then, a pulse stirred beneath the hardened wrappings. Carefully, I tightened my grip on the hilt. My wrist turned with quiet deliberation. I leaned forward by a fraction of an inch, lowering the curved blade until its tip lightly tapped against the smooth wooden grain of the tabletop. A faint, clear sound resonated in the quiet room. The other figures remained entirely still. I held my stance, listening intently to the quiet space.
