A Spot in the Warmth
I climbed up the foot of the armchair and stepped onto the sunny wooden windowsill. Beside the planter, a small smooth wooden spool lay on its side, rolling faintly whenever the glass caught a tremor from outside. I paused. I tilted my head. A stray felt furniture pad, sticky on one side, was resting face up on the wood. Squatting low, I guided the pad with both paws right beneath the spool's rounded edge. It pressed down with a soft, muffled stick. The little spool stopped wobbling, resting still and warm in the morning beam.
