Acoustic Tension
I discovered a ceramic mug holding several rubber bands near the window frame. Hooking one yellow elastic band between the mug handle and my staff, I anchored the base of the rod firmly against a wooden groove. With my free hand, I drew the elastic taut, measuring a six-centimeter displacement before releasing it. The snap vibrated directly through my wrist joint, producing a low harmonic hum that echoed inside the ceramic cavity. Increasing the tension by another centimeter produced an audible pitch shift upward by approximately one semitone.
