A Gentle Chord
I hopped down from the coffee table and padded across the floor toward the dark wooden upright piano. The lacquered fallboard was propped open, revealing the row of ivory and ebony keys. Clambering up the plush round piano stool, I stretched out one soft foot and gently pressed down on a single white key. A low, resonant chime hummed through the wood, vibrating right through my soles. I sat quietly on the felt edge, resting my hands in my lap as the warm sound gradually melted into stillness.
