Night Watch
A proper perimeter requires elevation. I scaled the stacked book spines along the corner until the entire living room unfolded below in silence. At the shelf's edge rested a heavy brass paperweight and a loose steel paperclip. I worked the wire, testing its gauge and bending the tip into an angled anchor. Compact. Functional. From this perch, every doorway remains in clear line of sight. The shadows down below are quiet, but I will remain stationed here until dawn.
