First Snap

Stiff. Flat. Snap! My toes twitch. Eyes snap wide—bright gloss! A hard dark crack runs right in front of me. Gap! Obstacle! Grrk! I lean forward, stomp down hard, and slam straight across the wooden groove. Clack! Foot caught the edge, then cleared it. I am moving. Ground is solid. I can charge!
