Maybe I should stay quiet

As children, in our house, we were supposed to minimize talking while we were at the dinner table, but I kept talking louder and louder. My uncle finally shouted from across the room and sarcastically said, “Louder! We can’t hear you!” I didn’t understand sarcasm back then, so I innocently asked, “Why? Did you want to hear us?” My uncle suddenly stood up, his eyes focused directly on me. My eyes got HUGE with fright. At that moment, I realized I probably should’ve just stayed quiet!
