A Soft Landing

A soft thud broke the quiet evening when a wool sock tumbled off the back of the sofa. Curled in the corner cushions, I leaned forward slowly to peek over the edge. Deciding to investigate, I let my round body roll off the plush cushion in a gentle tumble down to the carpet below. I landed with a muffled squish against the thick weave. Right beside my rounded belly lay the stray knitted sock and a forgotten wooden pencil rolled under the skirt of the couch. I tapped the smooth pencil with my plush side, watching it roll two quiet inches across the floor before resting against my seam.
