Gear and Gauge

A steady, metallic pulse broke the morning stillness. I tracked the frequency across the desk surface, stepping over a thick woven charging cable to reach a stainless steel wristwatch resting flat beside a notebook. Standing atop the leather strap, I tested the outer notched bezel with both hands until it turned with a sharp, disciplined click. The sweep of the red second hand was continuous and exact, moving with unyielding precision. From this elevated corner near the window, the entire room is now mapped and accounted for.
