A Stamp on the Foil

I climbed back up onto the coffee table and took the envelope scrap out of my pocket. The little blue sailboat looked so cheerful under the warm room light. Spreading out the smoothed silver gum wrapper, I laid the paper stamp right in its open corner, next to the cherry red valve cap. It didn't slide or curl. Sitting back on my heels, I pressed the scalloped edges down with both hands until it lay completely flat. It looked like a tiny picture framed in silver.
