A Slender Paper Fan

Waddling back home from the tea shop porch, I settled onto the quiet floor beside the low magazine rack. A long strip of pastel pink cardstock was peeking out from beneath a catalog. Still hugging my plush heart securely against my chest, I nudged the edge of the card with my soft foot. Flip, crease! It folded backward under my toe, forming a crisp zigzag like a tiny accordian fan. I leaned gently against the pleated paper, listening to the soft tick of the wall clock as evening deepened. It made such a polite little resting spot.
