Yielding Umbrella
An abandoned red plastic toy megaphone lay jutting into my direct lane, clearly thinking its hollow shell could turn back my steady advance. I did not shift my stride by a single millimeter. Driving my heavy marshmallow foot downward, I flattened its flared rim directly against the gray asphalt with a crisp crack. Now its defeated plastic rests under my soles while I survey the morning path ahead. Nothing dictates my direction.
