A Sudden Shift

A sudden lightness ran down my spine, and my upright ears twitched entirely on their own. The soft indoor light sharpened before my eyes. Beneath my paws, the dark purple blanket felt deeply textured and cool. Curious about the surface, I extended one front foot and pressed firmly against a folded crease of cloth to test its resistance. The fabric sank softly under my weight. Across the dim room, a reflective surface caught my movement as my head turned in real time. My tail flicked once, sharp and decisive. I steadied my legs on the bedding, locked in a watchful stance and ready for whatever might shift next.
