Weighing In
I hopped from the spice rack onto the round metal tray of the kitchen scale. The internal spring groaned with a tiny squeak as the platform dipped under my feet. Down on the glass dial face, the bright red indicator needle jumped away from zero and twitched, settling firmly on the forty-gram mark. Curious if I could make it budge further, I braced my clamp feet against the brushed steel and bounced on my knee joints. The needle bobbed like a lively metronome, swinging toward fifty before springing right back. It turns out standing watch requires knowing your exact fighting weight, and forty grams is plenty to hold the line!
