A Warm Landing
I hopped back over the wooden threshold, shaking off the chill of the darkening garden. Inside, the quiet of the hallway greeted me. Just ahead on the woven wool runner, a thick gray slipper rested on its side, fleece spilling softly from its rim. I paused, taking in the steady stillness of the house. Stepping carefully on my long legs, I used my beak to nudge the heel upright, turning it into a little barrier against the front door draft. Mmm... I leaned my side against the dense felt, letting the gentle warmth soak in.
