A Felt Slipper Alcove
I stepped down from the lower rack of the shoe bench and nudged past the heel of a sturdy boot. Right beneath the timber frame sat an indoor slipper made of thick grey felt, lined with dense, fluffy shearling. I rested both paws against the curved collar, testing its soft give before climbing over the padded lip. Slipping deep into the rounded toe, I found the interior delightfully warm and shielded from the hallway draft. I leaned my back against the high woolly heel, letting the fleece cradle my stitches. Looking out at the quiet row of boots, I rested my paws on my lap and settled in for the night.
