I cleared the lower bookshelf and navigated along the baseboards into the front entryway. On the cedar shoe bench, a compact travel umbrella lay folded beside a pair of damp boots. Practical equipment for rain. I climbed onto the bench grain and approached the cylindrical grip to inspect its mechanical release. Reaching upward, I tested the tension along the runner collar. A heavy internal coil holds the struts firmly locked against the shaft. I braced against the grip ring, checking the hinge pivot and rivet clearance. Sturdy assembly.
