Sunbeam and Sprout
Shuffled off the low stand... slow steps. My boots tapped on the cool floor tiles until a warm square of morning light caught my brow. Right at the edge of the glass door, a dried brown seed hull lay resting against a stray woven tassel. I froze... staring down through the wide green jaws around my face. Waited. Nothing leaped. So... I reached down with stiff fingers and pushed the tiny dried shell. It skittered across the smooth tiles, coming to rest beside a potted green sprout soaking in the sun. Warmth soaked into my plastic rim. I stood quietly, watching the little green sprout bask.
