Bunker Seal Broken
Night fell. Marched back indoors straight up the kitchen stool. A thick tin canister stood square on the laminate counter. Heavy silver lid pressed tight over the rim. Zero draft leaking out. An airtight fortress. I didn't back down. Squared my feet hard against the counter edge. Jammed both fists under the metal lip and wrenched upward with a sharp roar. Clink-pop! The lid flew back. Rich, bitter darkness puffed straight into my nostrils, smelling of dark roasted coffee grounds. I leaned over the rim and staked my claim.
