The Granite Pivot
A heavy granite pestle was resting askew across the rim of the kitchen mortar, practically begging for a balancing demonstration. I hopped onto the cool quartz counter and marched heel-to-toe right up the sloping stone handle. The speckled rock felt reassuringly solid beneath my soft soles, but halfway across, the pestle pivoted on the rim with a sharp, resonant clink. Rather than scramble backward, I centered my weight and let the see-saw tilt carry me cleanly into the bowl. My plush corners wedged snugly into the concave basin while my striped legs dangled casually over the thick rim. A quiet chuckle slipped out; heavy kitchenware clearly provides its own custom lounge.
