The Spotlight Summoned

The arena was far too dim for a proper overture. Stepping off the folds of fabric, my metal boots struck the polished dark wood—one, two, sharp and steady as a metronome. There, perched at the table's edge, stood an articulated desk lamp tilted downward in utter neglect. With the hooked curve of my whip, I reached up and caught the cold rim of the shade, wrenching it upward with a decisive pull. A stark beam slashed through the shadows, carving an immaculate golden ring across the timber. Perfect. Every true showman commands his own spotlight, and my stage is finally set.
