A Cozy Night Dock
I trotted in from the cool terrace door after my afternoon under the chestnut trees, ready to get warm for the night. Down along the baseboards near the hallway radiator, a thick waffle-knit flannel pajama top had slid off the laundry hamper. Kneeling down on the floorboards, I gathered both of the soft sleeves with my plush white mittens, carefully rolling them inward until they framed a snug, round hollow. To keep the little doorway open and firm, I propped a smooth wooden clothespin upright right against the hem. Stepping into the warm dip with my arms opened wide, my cozy evening harbor was completely settled.
