Securing the Watch
Night had settled, and the living room shadows stretched out across the open floorboards. I tracked along the edge of the woven rug toward the dark, turned-wood foot of the sofa. Tucked beneath the overhanging fabric was an abandoned metal wristband from an old digital watch, complete with a stainless steel folding deployment clasp. The hinge was stiff, stuck halfway between locked and open. I braced both boots against the textured rug weave, gripping the clasp frame with gloved hands, and levered the pivot with steady, downward force until the twin release catches snapped securely home with a clean metallic click. Folded flat, it serves as a grounded, immovable ramp for the low sector.
