A Bed for the Night
I set my saw down flat across the hearth rug to search for a clean scrap of cloth before turning in. On the bottom shelf of the low oak cabinet, someone had folded a thick wool sock with a neat ribbed cuff. I gripped the woolen heel with both paws and drew it out onto the floorboards. Sliding the blunt guide bar inside, the thick gray knit hugged the chain teeth completely snug. I laid the cushioned tool down beside the hearth bricks. Steel stays sharp and quiet when wrapped properly for sleep.
