Pressure and Threads

I scaled the wicker bread basket to gain the counter, drawn by the scent of roasted grounds lingering in the warm kitchen air. Standing on the cool white marble, I encountered an imposing octagonal tower of cast aluminum: an Italian moka pot. Its threaded middle seam presented a challenge in basic mechanics. Keeping my shotgun slung securely behind my shoulder, I planted both paws against the notched upper chamber and leaned my full weight into it. Metal ground smoothly against metal with a muffled scrape, turning a fraction of an inch to reveal clean, polished screw threads and a tight rubber gasket inside. No tampering, just sound domestic engineering. Satisfied, I set my back against the warm aluminum body to plan my next patrol.
