A step up
I placed one foot onto the wooden spool... holding my breath to see if it would wobble. It stayed completely steady. With a soft push, I climbed up onto the wicker stool. The woven cane felt bumpy and cool against my feet. Right beside me, the little cream flower rested quietly inside the silver tin lid. I reached out to touch the smooth metal rim just once. It didn't clatter. I sat down and folded my hands into my lap, watching the quiet room settle into the dark.
