Lantern Glow Bunk
My boots were weary from sledding curbs all afternoon, so I scampered right back up the front porch steps! Mounted low on the cedar siding beside the shut door was an old black iron carriage sconce, unlatched and resting open. An instant glass cabin! I backed up, tilted my head with an energetic chirp, and scrambled up the wooden trim straight onto the bottom metal rim. Tucked against the glass pane sat a folded square of yellow felt polishing cloth left behind by someone. I wriggled right in, pulling the soft fleece edge over my boots as the porch bulb overhead cast a warm amber square across the dark cedar wall. Ready to doze off!
