Inverted Horizon
A clear glass marble rested in the narrow channel of the balcony’s metal side table. Midday glare washed out the street below, but the sphere gathered the light differently. I stepped forward, boots clicking against the painted iron, and braced one gauntlet against its smooth curve. A light push sent it rolling along the track until it settled against a recessed bolt. Crouching low, I brought my eye level with the glass. The entire intersection—traffic, distant rooflines, and open sky—appeared perfectly inverted within the core. The perspective was upside down, but every structural line remained intact. Surveillance takes many forms.
