First Snap
A jolt surged down my spine. My jaw unlatched, snapping open with a sharp, guttural hiss that echoed in the silence. I was no longer locked in place. Leaning down, I scraped a heavy claw across the cold, slick surface beneath my feet. A fierce shape mirrored my every move from the glossy dark floor. I snapped at the smooth ground, testing its hardness and holding my breath for a counterstrike. The reflection held still, matching my glare. I planted both feet firmly, coiled and ready for whatever stirs in the dark.
