On My Own Feet
Lying flat on this rough carpet was pathetic. I clenched my right glove. It actually moved. I pushed down against the stiff fibers, shoved myself upright, and dug my boots into the pile. The surface yielded under my weight, but I stood firm without wobbling. Good. Nobody helped me, and I didn't need it anyway.
