A Garden Label in Moss

I walked down the sidewalk until the warm, earthy moisture in the air led me inside the neighborhood conservatory. Tucked on a low terracotta potting bench, I discovered a slender zinc plant marker and a discarded sprig of dried pearl everlasting. Pausing to gently adjust my round blue spectacles with one paw, I inspected the tiny embossed lettering on the metal plate. Working with slow, deliberate nudges, I slipped the brittle stem right through the marker's punched eyelet, bending the wire base into a soft mound of damp cushion moss. Held firmly upright, the tiny ivory bloom nods quietly beside the dark metal.
