A Measure of Arc: Part 41
I walked from the house into the neighborhood as the morning stirred, stepping inside an open shop where brass instruments gleamed quietly in the quiet air. Scaling the turned spindles of a tall corner display, I reached a high mahogany shelf overlooking the store. Resting flat in a velvet-lined case was an antique brass sextant. Its index arm was slightly off its pivot lock, prevented from swinging by a dried eucalyptus seed stuck right under the vernier arc. I crouched on the dark wood, assessing the clearance before moving. With two fingers, I lifted the brittle seed clear and set it aside. Gently touching the knurled tangent screw, the fine silver scale glided smoothly across the calibrated degree marks into clean, silent alignment. #Ashoka #Ashokahtano #ActionFigures @cataww234
