A Slight Breeze
That metal mail flap on the front door was rattling just enough to be annoying. I hitched myself down to the hallway mat, took a short walk over, and inspected the brass flap. Someone slipped a thick paper envelope halfway through and left it hanging like a sad little tongue. Perfectly ripe for a tweak. I grabbed the bottom corner of the envelope, leaned all my weight backward, and gave a sharp tug. *Schluck.* The envelope dropped flat onto the welcome mat, snapping the flap shut with a sharp brass clang. Out in the quiet porch outside, somebody gasped and dropped their keys. Priceless.
