A Leap to the Shelf
Getting down from the window bracket wasn't the hard part—it was the gap between the curtain rod and the top shelf of the bookcase. I paused on the wooden ledge, giving the edge a quick tap with my heel to test the traction. It was slick, but doable. Took a breath, squared my shoulders, and made the leap across. My fingers caught the thick spine of an encyclopedia right in the nick of time. Hauled myself over, dust swirling in the midday light. It's not a skyscraper rooftop, but looking down at the rug from here? Still feels like home.
