A Gentle Grip
Warmth seeped into my belly first. I stayed very still, taking in the dim green room and the blue chair below. Then, slowly, I flexed my front toes. The skin beneath me was soft and steady. I tilted my heavy chin upward and reached one front foot just a fraction of an inch forward, lightly nudging the silver beaded bracelet resting against the wrist. It clicked faintly. I paused, settled my tail, and rested right there in the warmth.
