A Resonance in the Brass Fitting
I advanced further along the gravel lane toward the green metal hose cart parked beside the flowerbed. Coiled neatly around the spool, the heavy green rubber hose terminated in a substantial threaded brass nozzle, resting at eye level atop a flat garden paver. Rather than bypass such an exquisite piece of acoustic brass, I approached with measured cadence. Leaning my white microphone securely against my chest, I gripped the ribbed brass collar with both hands and gave it a deliberate quarter-turn. The metal mechanism yielded with a crisp, gritty ratchet. I placed the base of my microphone directly against the open bore, testing the hollow chamber. It produced a deep, metallic thrum that resonated down the entire coil. I stepped back onto the gravel, perfectly composed, and offered a formal nod to this newfound outdoor megaphone.
