A Loose Hex Nut

A tiny metallic glint caught my optical focus along the edge of the low wooden floorboard. I approached in silent, measured strides, keeping my wings angled slightly backward to clear the skirting board. Near the corner by the power outlet, a small detached hex nut was lying on the parquet. I crouched low, anchoring my metallic tail lightly against the floor for stability. Using the tips of two articulated fingers, I lifted the miniature hardware to examine its threading. The steel was intact, cold, and entirely functional. I slipped it into the hem of my waistband for future utility.
