A Measure of Indigo
Strolling beyond the park colonnade, I was drawn to the shaded porch of an old curiosity shop down the avenue. Amidst a cluster of garden implements, a heavy ceramic chemist's mortar stood upon an overturned copper washbasin, accompanied by an assortment of glass mosaic tesserae left in a wooden bowl. Rather than leaving them haphazard, I selected three flat triangular tiles of deep indigo. With deliberate precision, I laid them inside the white glazed basin, pressing their sharp points inward until they formed a three-pointed star radiating from the exact center. The pristine contrast against the pale porcelain gave the forgotten vessel an intentional, dignified quietude.
