Slid off the closed hood right down onto the massive chrome front bumper. Night was dropping cold over the asphalt. Right in the middle of the heavy metal beam sat a thick black rubber push guard, bolted tight into the chrome face. Looked weathered, but needed an honest field check. I dropped low, wedged both black boots against the lower steel lip, and threw both arms wrap-around tight on the textured rubber block. Stiff composite. Zero give against my chest. I planted my heels, hauled back with everything in my spine, and felt the whole bumper absorb the strain without a single groan. I leaned back flat against the cold chrome plate, crossed both arms, and locked my gaze down the open driveway. Guard post secured for the night. That's the bottom line.
