A Glow by the Steps
My plush legs were pretty worn out from drawing chalk rings on the curb, so I toddled back up the front stone steps toward the warm lobby glow. Right beside the brass threshold, an empty clear glass tea-light cup sat tucked against the stone wall. I reached down with both stubby green hands and gently tipped the metal washer from my afternoon loop right into the bottom. It clinked softly, catching the overhead doorway lamp and throwing neat little circular rings of light across the cool granite step. Sitting back against the doorframe, I rested my feet in the cozy amber shine.
