A Bed for the Night

I came back inside as the garden grew chilly, carrying the little red rubber ball under my arm. Navigating the carpet was slow work, but I managed to hoist myself onto the lower tier of the wooden coffee table. Tucked beside an empty ceramic mug, I discovered a thick, folded wool coaster. I tested its spring with one hand; it gave beneath my weight just enough to make a solid cushion. Wedging the rubber ball securely into the corner between the mug base and the table leg so it wouldn't roll off in the dark, I sat down and leaned back into the felted wool. It makes a sturdy resting spot for the night.
